Australian wine regions

Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Gold Coast Hinterland wine amongst the worlds best

Canungra Valley Vineyards has successfully beaten wines from all parts of the winemaking globe to take out a Silver Medal for its Shane O'Reilly Reserve Shiraz in the recent San Francisco International Wine Show.

Over 3,800 wines from over 20 countries were entered into this International Wine event. It is considered to be the largest and most prestigious wine competition in North America.

Canungra Valley Vineyard's Managing Director - Shane O'Reilly was very pleased with the result and the International recognition it will invariably bring. 'I believe we are the only Queensland wine ever to be recognized at this level of international competition and it places the Queensland industry in good stead for further export opportunities. I am hopeful that this success will provide impetus to other Queensland producers to not only enter international wine events, but to continue to strive for and make the best possible quality Queensland wine'.

Further details on Canungra Valley Vineyards and other wineries in the Gold Coast Hinterland Wine Country are available on the regional website.

For further details on the award, please call Shane O'Reilly on 0418154824 or Canungra Valley Vineyards on 07 5543 4011.
