Australian wine regions
Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Tony Aspler is one of the most read wine writers in Canada. He is also the editor of Canadian magazine, Winetidings, wine columnist for the Toronto Star (since 1980), creator of the Air Ontario Wine Awards and a member of the Advisory Board for Masters of Wine (North America). He is the author of several books on wine, including Guide to New World Wines, Vintage Canada, Travels with my Corkscrew, The Wine Lover's Companion, Aligote To Zinfandel, Cellar & Silver and The Wine Lover Cooks.
