Pam Bakes describes herself as an eater and a drinker, not a sipper and a snacker. And has been that way ever since childhood - a girl with a 'healthy appetite' as it was called in those days. She crept into the food and wine industry inauspiciously, first selling bread in Harrods before progressing to supermarket wine tastings in Melbourne. But the present of a 'Larousse Gastronomiqu'e for a birthday too long ago to remember - it was the edition with 23 pages devoted to eggs, a fact which still impresses - sealed her fate. She has spent the past 20 years or so working on major food and wine events, including The Exhibition of Victorian Winemakers, Wine Australia and the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and also has a number of smaller, individual clients from the food and wine industries. She has an extensive library of cookbooks, even cooking from them on the odd occasion, is a food and wine magazine junkie but understands the Internet is the way to go - she just hates it when wine gets on the keyboard and jams the keys!
