 | Italy's autumn extravaganzas
This fall, two of Italy's most fascinating wine (and food) shows will take place within a couple of weeks of one another
Cork harvest
Notwithstanding a visit to Portugal several years ago specifically for the purpose of looking at the cork industry, it had not occurred to me that cork harvests might respond to weather conditions in much the same way as grapevines (and grapes) do.
Vintage Ports - Australian
It is exceedingly unlikely that a tasting of the magnitude of that organised by James Godfrey, Seppelt's chief fortified winemaker, will ever be staged again. The 100 or so tasting notes which follow were but half of the tasting, the other 100 being Portuguese vintage ports spanning the same 70 years.
The Len Evans Theory of Capacity
There is an awful lot of wine in the world, but there is also a lot of awful wine.

 | Browns of Padthaway
Location: Australia - South Australia - Padthaway The Brown family has for many years been the largest independent grape grower in Padthaway, a district in which most of the vineyards were established and owned by Wynns, Seppelts, Lindemans and Hardys, respectively. A rapidly expanding range of wines is now appearing under the Browns of Padthaway label, the majority being pleasant but very light in body and flavour.Poole's Rock
Location: Australia - NSW - Lower Hunter Valley Sydney merchant banker David Clarke has had a long involvement with the wine industry, including a directorship of McGuigan Brothers Limited. The 18-hectare Poole's Rock vineyard, planted purely to chardonnay, is his personal venture, the resource recently bolstered by the acquisition of the larger, adjoining Simon Whitlam Vineyard. The wine has retail distribution throughout Australia and is exported to the UK and US.
