Summary:
The Kelman Estate is a California-type development on the outskirts of Cessnock. A 40-hectare property has been subdivided into 80 residential development lots, but with eight hectares of vines wending between the lots under common ownership. In a sign of the times, part of the chardonnay has already been grafted across to shiraz before coming into full production, and the vineyard has the potential to ultimately produce 8000 cases a year. In the meantime, each owner will receive 12 cases a year of the wines produced by the vineyard, with the balance being available for sale via mail order (phone 02 4991 5456 for details) and through a single Sydney retail outlet. The Chardonnay is a nice, fresh wine, with light melon fruit, free of the dreaded oak chips.
