Australian wine regions
Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Wine background
In April 1998 the long-awaited 'White Grange' was finally released, the name Yattarna (an aboriginal word meaning little by little) putting to rest forever the idea that there could possibly be a brand extension of what is, and always will be, a unique wine. It was a blend of 50 per cent Adelaide Hills and 50 per cent McLaren Vale Chardonnay, given Rolls Royce treatment from start to finish. The '96 and subsequent vintages have been produced almost entirely from Adelaide Hills grapes. | |
| James Halliday Oct 05 2000 Rating: 97 out of 100 | Without question, this has already developed into the best of the three vintages so far released, and has its best years in front of it. Fragrant, tangy fruit and oak coalesce throughout both bouquet and palate; the strength of the wine comes from its structure, balance and persistence of flavour and aftertaste. |
