Australian wine regions

Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Summary:
Although merged with Mildara and now under the giant umbrella of Beringer Blass, the brands (as expected) have been left largely intact. The white wines (made by Wendy Stuckey) are particularly impressive, none more so than the Gold Label Riesling. After a short pause, the red wines have improved out of all recognition thanks to the sure touch (and top palate) of Caroline Dunn. Worldwide distribution.

Also sparkling and fortified wines. The Eaglehawk now roosts here, too, Eaglehawk Chardonnay, Eaglehawk Riesling, Eaglehawk Sauvignon Blanc, Eaglehawk Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer Riesling, Grenache Shiraz. The Blass range, with its red, minimalist labels in stark contrast to the usual baroque designs so loved by Wolf, is a relatively recent addition, Vintage Brut, Pinot Chardonnay Brut, Clare Valley Red Label Riesling, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,
