Australian wine regions

Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Summary:
A public-listed company which is the ultimate logical expression of Brian McGuigan's marketing drive and vision, on a par with that of Wolf Blass in his heyday. Highly successful in its chosen niche market notwithstanding some labels which are garish. Has been particularly active in export markets, notably the US and more recently in China. There has been public discussion in the press and on the Internet of the difference between samples of McGuigan Genus 4 Old Vine Shiraz 2000 entered into a show and the wine later released for public sale. One of these days, the labelling laws may more effectively govern such practices, which by no means were confined to McGuigan Wines alone.

Product Range:
The wines are sold in several price brackets: at the bottom, Harvest Range First Harvest, Night Harvest and Autumn Harvest; the Black Label range of Verdelho Chardonnay, Chardonnay, Traminer Riesling and Black Label Red; Vineyard Selection Gewurztraminer and Petite Verdot; then the Bin range of 2000 Shiraz, 3000 Merlot, 4000 Cabernet Sauvignon, 5000 Malbec, 6000 Verdelho, 7000 Chardonnay, 8000 Sauvignon Blanc, 9000 Semillon; finally Shareholder Reserve range and Personal Reserve range. add Howcroft Estate Shiraz and Cabernet.
