Australian wine regions

Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Summary:
If Geoff Merrill ever loses his impish sense of humour or his zest for life, high and not-so-high, we shall all be the poorer. He is seeking to lift the profile of his wines on the domestic market; in 1998 the product range was rearranged into two tiers: premium (in fact simply varietal) and reserve, the latter being the older (and best) wines, reflecting the desire for elegance and subtlety of this otherwise exuberant winemaker. As well as national retail distribution, significant exports to the UK, Europe, the US and Asia.

Product Range:
A change in brand structure has resulted in the Geoff Merrill range becoming Geoff Merrill Reserve representing the ultra-premium wines; the former Premium range is now released under the Geoff Merill label; Who Cares The Whites and Who Cares The Reds; Mount Hurtle wines are sold exclusively through Vintage Cellars/Liquorland.
