Australian wine regions
Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

McWilliam's Elizabeth and the glorious Lovedale Semillon are generally commercially available with many years of bottle age and are undervalued and underpriced treasures with a consistently superb show record. The three individual vineyard wines, together with the Maurice O'Shea memorial wines, add to the lustre of this proud name. Exports to many countries, the most important being the UK, the US, Germany and New Zealand.
Much simplified and rationalised over the past year. The base range now comprises Mount Pleasant Elizabeth, Philip, Late Harvest Dessert Wine, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Unwooded Chardonnay, Pinot Chardonnay, Sparkling Pinot Noir, Merlot; then individual vineyard wines, Rosehill Shiraz, Old Paddock & Old Hill Shiraz, Lovedale Semillon (previously known as Anne), then Maurice O'Shea Chardonnay, Shiraz; finally Museum releases of Elizabeth, Lovedale Semillon, Late Harvest Reserve.
