Regional Overview
Visiting Australia? Discover our main wine states and regions
Australian wine regions
Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Summary: Molly Morgan has been acquired by Andrew and Hady Simon, who established the Camperdown Cellars Group in 1971, becoming the largest retailer in Australia before passing on to other pursuits, and John Baker, one of Australia's best-known fine wine retailers, who owned or managed Quaffers, Double Bay Cellars, the Newport Bottler and Grape Fellas (Epping) at various times. The property is planted to 5.5 hectares of 25-year-old unirrigated semillon, which goes to make the Old Vines Semillon, 0.8 hectares for Joe's Block Semillon, 2.5 hectares of chardonnay and 1.2 hectares of shiraz. The wines are contract-made (as has always been the case, in fact, but to a high standard). Exports to the US. |
