Regional Overview
Visiting Australia? Discover our main wine states and regions
Australian wine regions
Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Summary: Senior among the numerous wine companies or stand-alone brands in Southcorp Wines and undoubtedly one of the top wine companies in the world in terms of quality, product range and exports. The consistency of the quality of the red wines and their value for money is recognised worldwide, and - headed by the development of the ultra-premium Yattarna Chardonnay - it has steadily raised the quality of its white wines. Following the acquisition of Rosemount Estate by Southcorp in 2001, there will be even greater focus on the three leading brands of Penfolds, Lindemans and Rosemount, and it would not be surprising to see the sale of some lesser brands and the deletion of others. |
